EFINOR Sea Cleaner Mobula 8 – Marine Litter & Oil Spill Cleanup Vessel Launched by Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Malaysia Ministry
Malaysia, 10th April 2025– In a significant advancement for marine conservation, the Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, officially launched the Mobula 8, a state-of-the-art vessel designed to combat marine litter pollution. The vessel, manufactured by Efinor Sea Cleaner from France, aims to enhance Malaysia’s efforts in preserving its coastal and offshore waters.
The Mobula 8 is a versatile marine vessel built to clean and clear pollutants in rivers, coastal areas, and estuaries. Equipped with advanced technology, it efficiently collects floating waste, contributing to cleaner oceans and healthier marine ecosystems. The vessel’s deployment is a testament to Malaysia’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
“We are proud to introduce the Mobula 8, which marks a crucial milestone in our commitment to marine conservation. With its cutting-edge design and capabilities, this vessel will significantly improve waste management in our waters,” said Nik Nazmi during the launch event.
To bring this innovative solution to the region, EFINOR Sea Cleaner, a renowned leader in marine waste collection technology, partnered with VJ Engineering Solutions Sdn Bhd, the official agent for Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei. The vessel’s advanced retrieval system ensures efficient collection, while its sustainable features align with global environmental standards.
The Mobula 8 will be stationed in key areas facing severe marine pollution to complement local marine debris cleanup efforts. This initiative reflects a shared vision for cleaner seas and underscores the importance of innovative solutions in addressing environmental challenges.
EFINOR Sea Cleaner will also be showcasing its innovative marine waste collection solutions at InterSpill 2025, Excel London. Visitors can find EFINOR at Stand A20, where representatives from both EFINOR and VJ Engineering Solutions Sdn Bhd will be available to assist clients personally. Interested parties are encouraged to visit the booth from 8-10th April 2025 at Excel London to learn more about the Mobula 8 and other marine cleanup solutions.
In addition, two abstracts from VJ Engineering have been selected for participation at InterSpill 2025. The first, titled Developing an Educational Framework to Raise Awareness and Reduce Marine Litter: A Stakeholder Approach Aligned with the Honolulu Strategy and DPSIR Framework, will be featured in the poster design session on 8th April from 11 AM onwards. Visitors can explore this insightful research on marine litter reduction.
The second abstract, Sustaining ESD in Malaysian Primary Schools: Industrial Stakeholder Engagement Framework, has been selected for presentation at the conference. Attendees can join the session on 9th April at 4:30 PM to gain insights into fostering education for sustainable development (ESD) in primary schools.
